Import, view, and organize your media
To import media, tap the plus button in the gallery and select "Import from Photos." Privara uses the system photo picker to let you select multiple photos, videos, and GIFs at once. Each file is encrypted immediately upon import.
After importing, you can choose to automatically remove the originals from your photo library, keep them, or be asked each time. This setting can be changed in Settings under "After Import."
Privara fully supports Apple's Live Photos. When you import a Live Photo, both the still image and the video component are encrypted and stored together. In the photo viewer, you can long-press to play the Live Photo animation just like in the native Photos app.
Live Photos are displayed with a "LIVE" badge in the gallery so you can easily identify them.
Premium users can capture photos and videos directly into the vault without them ever touching the device's photo library. The direct-to-vault camera opens within the app, captures the media, encrypts it immediately, and stores it in your vault.
This is the most secure way to capture sensitive content — the unencrypted version never exists on disk outside of the vault.
Tap any photo to open it in a full-screen viewer with smooth pinch-to-zoom, pan, and swipe-to-navigate gestures. The viewer decrypts content on the fly for display.
From the viewer, you can access metadata, run OCR text extraction, rename the file, share or export, edit with the photo editor, or delete the item.
Encrypted videos play directly within the app using a chunked decryption approach. Videos are encrypted in 4 MB chunks, and the player decrypts chunks on demand — this allows smooth playback of large video files without needing to decrypt the entire file first.
The video player supports standard controls including play/pause, scrubbing, and full-screen mode.
Slideshow mode displays your photos in a full-screen automatic slideshow. You can set the interval between slides to 2 seconds, 4 seconds, or 8 seconds.
Slideshows can be started from the gallery or from within an album. Tap anywhere to pause or exit the slideshow.
Privara can import audio files into your vault. Imported audio is encrypted just like photos and videos. The built-in audio player supports playback with standard controls.
Audio files appear in the gallery alongside your other media and can be filtered using the type filter to show only audio content.
